PfS Design Conference 2009British Museum, London - Tuesday 24 November 2009
Featuring case studies on some of the most recent new builds and refurbishment projects, the conference will also examine how we ensure that BSF delivers high-quality design schools that will help to transform education for every young person in the country.
PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS
KEYNOTE SPEAKERHerman Hertzberger His architectural practice was established in 1960. Well-known buildings designed by the bureau include the Central Beheer head office in Apeldoorn, the Music Centre Vredenburg in Utrecht and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment office in The Hague. His office is known for its many cultural buildings, schools and residential buildings, not only in The Netherlands, but also abroad. Herman Hertzberger has won many competitions, has been granted with many honorary fellowships and has received (international) awards for individual projects as well as his work as a whole. Herman Hertzberger was one of the editors of FORUM (Dutch magazine), together with Aldo van Eyck and Jaap Bakema. His project's have been published and exhibited all over the world. Along with many magazine articles he wrote the books "Lessons for students in architecture" (1991) also published in Dutch, Japanese, German, Italian, Portuguese, Greek and Chinese and "Space and the Architect, Lessons in Architecture 2" (2000) with elaborated versions of his lectures, also charting the backgrounds to his work and the ideas informing it. In 2008 "Space and Learning" was published, a book that brings together his knowledge and ideas in a theoretical study of the spatial conditions of learning. In October 2009 the publication of his book "All Schools" is expected. Other books in English are: "Articulations" (2002), "Shelter for Culture. Herman Hertzberger & Apeldoorn" (2004), "The Theatres of Herman Hertzberger" (2005), "Waternet Double Tower" (2006), "Hertzberger's Amsterdam" (2007). |
